If you need help adjusting, we offer post-adoption training and behavior support to ensure a successful transition.

Meet Our Dogs, Ready For Adoption

Each of these dogs is looking for their forever home. Click on their profiles to learn more about their personalities, needs, and what kind of home would be the best fit for them.

It All Starts With The Application To Adopt

When filling out the application form, be sure to have the person you used as a personal reference call the rescue on your behalf at 315-446-5970 Ext 1.

If you have a veterinarian, be sure to let your veterinarian know that HHDR will be calling. You must give permission to your veterinarian to speak with HHDR.

Once your application is fully processed you are welcome to come in and meet our dogs during our business hours. You cannot adopt, hold a dog, or visit them until your application has been fully processed.

Please watch your email and junk folder, we communicate primarily through email throughout the process.

You can find the dates of upcoming transports by clicking below.

Ten days prior to the transport arrival date, those dogs will be posted on our Facebook page and will be listed on our website. Dogs coming in locally will be posted as they arrive.

Once you have a fully processed application, you can call the rescue for more information about any available dog you may be interested in. Staff can help determine if the dog would be a good fit for your environment based on the personality profile provided by the foster home (the full profile is NOT available on our website).

Adoption Fees

The adoption fee assists our sending organization with the veterinary care required prior to transport and the cost to transport across states.  $150 per dog is given to the sending organization to help defray medical costs and depending on where the dog is coming from, it is $125-175 per dog to move them.   The adoption fee also helps offset the expense of dogs entering our care who need additional care for infections, orthopedic issues, tumors, heartworm treatment post adoption or any other illness/injury.

Every dog adopted from HHDR has had a minimum:

  • All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
  • Rabies, Distemper/Parvo and Bordatella vaccinations given when age appropriate.
  • Heartworm test (when age appropriate) and treatment, if positive.
  • Monthly preventatives for heartworm, fleas and ticks.
  • Tested and treated for internal parasites.
  • Microchipping.
  • Any other medically necessary treatment to prepare them for a healthy start with their new family.
  • Certificate for a free wellness exam along with $250 credit to treat common rescue/shelter issues at a participating VCA Veterinary Hospital.
  • Coupons for a discount on your first training, grooming, and boarding with us.
